Our Posting Guide

All our Calendars contain original public  Facebook  data (events) importing using a simple to use [Chrome / Firefox] extension.

In order to simplify the process of creating calendar entries and preventing duplication of effort & errors we have decided to predominantly shift our attention towards existing public Facebook data (events) and ways of importing these into Calendars with as few mouse clicks as possible.

It really could not be any simpler to import data into our [Calendars].

We just need to set you up on our system and get you to install & use the approved browser plugins.

This guide provides best practises & requirements for organisers or local Tanguer@s who want to contribue events to our Calendars.

Posting Prerequisites

[ Overview ]

Q: What do I need to post events onto the Calendars?
A: Not much actually. Here is a general list of requirements:
  1. We need to grant permission to Calendars (Google account req.) you plan on using & for that we need some basic details & consent from you ( see "Your Details" section below )
  2. You need to use a Chrome extension called Checker Plus for Google Calendar™ or equivalent Firefox Add-on (hint: click appropriate download link)
  3. Due to a number of good reasons our focus is on importing public Facebook data (events) and as such you will also need Facebook access.
And that is pretty much it. Once the above is in place you are ready to go. Events can be added to calendars in no time at all with only a few mouse clicks.

Almost forgot to mention another important point, well actually 3 teeny-weeny related points:

You absolutely need to familiarise yourself with our Ground Rules aka the Do's and Don'ts and you have to agree to abide by them at all times and only apply to become a contributor if you are:

A ) a Tango dancer who knows the relevant Tango scene well

B ) there is NO CONFLICT of INTEREST whatsoever e.g. no affiliation with another competing website / organisation etc (if unsure please contact us) and

C ) plan to support and/or grow this community resource with only your best intentions at ♡

Apart from these reasonable expectations it's as easy as ABC!

create beauty ♡
Nota Bene A few contributors reported the current process being too cumbersome / technical. We are reviewing the process but given existing workloads / commitments are likely to stick to the current process for some time.

As an alternative we created a Facebook Group to share your events to. The aim of this group is for power contributors & administrators to locate missing events and potentially add them on your behalf. We cannot make any guarantees whatsoever that these will be added to our Calendars but it does not hurt and besides sharing your events there alone should reaches a wider audience.

Posting Rules

[ Do's & Don'ts ] ‍‍ ‍‍ our posting ground rules

Important criteria for deciding which calendar to use and what is permissible.

Before you rush ahead consider a few things first, in particular which calendars you should be posting in (if at all).

We have three main calendar: [ Milonga ], [ Milonguita / Practilonga ], [ Practica ] plus an additional [ BYD M25 ] calendar for events happening just outside London or within reasonable travelling distance. It may seem obvious which calendar to use. However as the [ London Tango Calendar ] was originally set up with a particular aim and focus, which is still very much on venues that cater for traditional Argentine Tango, we have to set some reasonable ground rules first.

Each tab below contains important cirteria for each Calendar. Please click & review all the tabs thoroughly before deciding on which calendars to use.

Milonga

This calendar is for Traditional Milonga venues only! Only post events that meet all of the following criteria:

1) We deem venues that plays 100% traditional Argentine Tango for the entire duration of the event. Occassional Salsa cortina or Chacarera/Zamba etc are permitted & possibly a few tandas of newer/modern orchestras as long as it is predominantly "Traditional" thoughout the entire event.

2) Traditional events can be considered for the [ 𝙼𝚒𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚐𝚊 ] calendar provided they either employ the services of a respectable DJ or the Organiser/DJ is a reasonably experienced "musicalizador de Tango Argentino"

3) The venue capacity should also be capable of accomodating 100+ dancers. Smaller venues are considered a 𝙼𝚒𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚐𝚞𝚒𝚝𝚊 and as such should go into the appropriate calendar!

4) The venue should have a wooden/parquet dance floor and preferably it should be a sprung floor.

5) Just as important the event lasts no less than 3 hours!

Milonguita / Practilonga

So automatically it seems that everything which does not fit into the [ 𝙼𝚒𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚐𝚊 ] calendar can go here, but unfortunately this is not the case!

Use this calendar for social dance events such as Milonguita (short / smaller Milonga) or Practilonga (cross between Practica & Milonga) or any venue that caters for modern or alternative Tango.

Only events that last for at least 2 hours should be considered for this calendar!

Practica

This calendar is to be used for any event that is purely a Practica where people generally go to practise what they have learned or to practise with a partner. Again please refrain from posting events that last less than 2 hours. Short post class practicas or guided practicas should be advertised as part ot the class and not on here!

BYD M25

This is pretty much the same as the [ 𝙼𝚒𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚐𝚊 ] calendar apart from the geographic location. Originally this calendar was added to provide optional events for travelling Tango dancers at times nothing was scheduled in London. And due to distances involved we never intended listing anything other than "Traditional" Milonga or Special Events in this calendar. This has not changed and as such we do not wish to list any Practica or Alternative events in here. Please refrain from doing so.

BYD (Beyond) M25 does not mean UK wide! Think more in terms of around the M25 boundary and within reasonable travelling distance from London.

Tango Lesson

We have been considering a separate [ Tango Lesson ] calendar to host Classes & Workshops for quite a while. And after debating long and hard, listening to all your feedback and discussing this with trusted colleagues we have finally decided to implement this.

As with the other calendars Organisers / Teachers & travelling Maestos can post their classes & workshops here using the [ Chrome or Firefox ] extension/add-on.

And if you are a Tango school / acaremy with a large schedule of classes you can also apply to have your own calendar that you can fully manage and grant permissions to adminstrators, via the owner/partners who will need to assume the primary administrator role.

Of course you can still use the [ Chrome or Firefox ] extension/add-on as with the other calendars for adding Facebook data (events) for special workshops etc, but you are free to use default Google Calendar functionality as well to manage class & workshop entries manually as well.

NB If you are not familir with using Google Calendar it is advisable to read their Get started with Calendar guide!

Please note that this is the only calendar where independent classes & workshops are permitted. Please do NOT post class & workshop entries in any other calendars, no exception!

Other important things to be mindful about.

These additional tabs contain important criteria relating to our OPEN Data Policy as well as Quality & Purity requirments which also need to be adhered to.

Data Quality

Our Calendar is only as good as the quality of data it contains.

As such we kindly ask you to create rich event data and to only import public  Facebook  events instead of manually creating your own calendar entries. Any poorly formated events, those lacking information or events other than those originating from Facebook may be removed!

Data Purity

Inappropriate data of any sort will not be tollerated on our website!

Data Protection

We have a strict open data policy! This means we only approve of sharing public data that is already in the public domain. So even if you want to share your own data or data which you are responsible for, make sure it is available in public first prior to sharing on our site!

Forbidden Entries

Examples of forbidden entries include individual class & workshops in any of the [ Milonga ], [ Milonguita / Practilonga ], [ Practica ] & [ BYD M25 ] calendars. These are not permitted under any circumstances!

Only the New [ Tango Lesson ] calendar can host classes & workshops! However that being said any event such as a Milonga which has a class beforehand may be included as part of the Facebook event details providing the event itself is permissible. This is considered part of the Facebook data and there is no need to strip this out.

Also any event lacking rich event details which only acts as a redirect to an external website is also not permitted! e.g. "For more details go to 'http://mywebsite.com/event_details.html" The point of our site is for tanguer@s to be able to find all information in one place and any such re-directs defeat this purpose.

NB As indicated already in the Data Protection tab we do NOT authorise events on our shared public Calendars** that do not already have a corresponding public event i.e. an existing public Facebook event!

** The only exceptions are Tango School / Academy Calendars which we list in addition to our shared Tango Lesson calendars upon agreement. These do not necessarily require Facebook events, but please do ensure any events listed there also have a prior public presence of some kind!

Nota Bene It is important to familiarise yourself with all the posting guidelines & calendar criterria above. Please refrain from posting inappropriate entries or you could have your permissions revoked!

If for whatever reason you are in any doubt about which of the above calendars to use please ask for clarification!

c'est si bon ♡
